How to Use KeePassXC
Application software download free Windows
KeePassXC is a password management application that allows you to save all your usernames and passwords in one encrypted database. It can then automatically fill in the login information on websites or other applications, saving you from having to manually copy and paste them.
When first launching the program, you will be prompted to choose a database name and description, along with adjusting the encryption settings. The more secure the encryption, the longer it will take for your passwords to be accessed. You will also be able to choose a master passphrase, which is required in order to unlock the database. This is a crucial piece of security, and should be backed up in case you ever lose it.
Upon completing the database setup, you will be able to begin adding entries. These are essentially records that consist of at least a username and password, though you can add notes and files as well. To create an entry, click the icon that resembles a key on the toolbar.
Another useful feature is the ability to auto-type your credentials into a website or other application. This can be done at either the global or individual entry level, and you can assign hints that will be used to determine which entry is chosen when logging in. The hints can be populated in any number of ways, including UPPER, LOWER, HEX, BASE64 and URI-DEC.
To make the most of this feature, you will need to enable browser integration. To do this, open the program's settings menu and select the Tools tab. From here, you can request the KeePassXC browser plugin to connect with your browser of choice. You can then select a specific browser to use with the plugin, and the plugin will offer to fill in your username and password when you click the appropriate link on a website.
